about

Full album purchase includes pdf of full artwork.

With the release of These Factory Days, San Francisco's TARTUFI have further advanced upon their layered spectrum of sound. Welcoming good friend Ben Thorne (Low Red Land, Minot) into the band to take over the role of bass player, TARTUFI is now a fully realized machine. Whereas before Angel and Gorman preferred the whirlwind approach, favoring a systematic shock to the senses - with the addition of Thorne the band is able to utilize time and space to elicit an overall sense of complete synchronicity and total fluidity. If you thought you were in a strange alien river before then best grab a paddle because this river flows into the sea of sonic accord. TARTUFI took over a year and a half to track and mix These Factory Days, once again with the aid of Tim Green (Melvins, Howlin Rain, Joanna Newsom, Fresh & Onlys) at Louder Studios and The Hangar, and also with Scott McDowell at Hyde Street. The result is a band fully settled within their sound, secure amongst an ocean of interlocking counterweights, where you are at once upon the bright surface and walking the cavernous depths. TARTUFI further push the boundaries of sonic sameness and classic structure to evoke an overall sense of movement and progression. Pop songs be damned - TARTUFI is a country of sound.

Track Name: Underwater
Slip away from the fever and the flood you forgave, slip away

We don't fall on knees through shaded trees our wants are true and so are these
Please don't follow leaves through murky streams the warning signs were crystalline

Gone awry

We don't fall on knees through shaded trees our wants are true and so are these

Please don't follow leaves through murky streams the warning signs were crystalline

Oh patience patience all the bandits have been born

The innocence of life is yours

Oh merchants merchants purveyors of the noise

The virtues that you hold have been destroyed
I sever you from the sky that crumbles to your frame
I sever you from life, from breathing and from fame

Objects fly through Amsterdam

Under siege in foreign lands

Oh how has this fear come true

Struck by missiles sights and hands

California’s lost her land

Those fields, pull me over the dew

So on we go down the valleys and the roads on our own

Though we’re told that the river only flows to our homes

I will not spend another October underwater

For once ahead is you

Though those fields pull me under

Can’t take away my summer or take away the blue
Track Name: Seldom
Seldom does the time move slow

Wade into the water
Wade into the sea

We are dropping anchor
In the silent sea
We are lost are the rolling water
Bound like stones to our sons and daughters

Absolute, anchors flew, dragging me too
I declare a war on all seasons cold
It's been done before who I can't recall

Spill your season's spoils

Give in to the soil
It's been done before

Who I can't recall
Give in to the soil

Am I then your enemy

Passed fruitless nights by the golden tree

We suffered loss silently

Before man walked, before the robbery

We suffered loss silently

Before man walked, before the robbery
Track Name: Eaves
My melody all other notes feel the same
But through these eaves you float like leaves in this rain

Melody

Don't wait

Roll through these reeds, toe the line

I don't wanna know

Track Name: Glass Eyes
Sun shall be turned into darkness the moon into blood

Stevie felt stayed by the lethargy and sat in the road

Families thought sentimental thoughts while they lessen their load

And felt nothing more exhilarating than saving themselves from the cold

From the fish fields of the north Pacific

To those glass eyes we're forced to live with

Once again crushed by the weight of the compass

Lungs filled surely flooded

But at least to be sure

That the Sun shall be turned
Is greater a sight

By this darkness this night

Trees shall be turned into shadows their fruit into dust

Stevie felt floored by the darkness the rot and the rust

Families kept thoughts to themselves as they stumble alone

And felt nothing more exhilarating than saving yourself from your soul

And the Moon at once slips through

A ballad of drips and dew

Symphonic it moves to

The path fright made for you

From the fish fields of the north Pacific

To those glass eyes we're forced to live with

Once again crushed by the weight of the compass

Lungs filled surely flooded

Track Name: Furnace of Fortune
So you work all the rides

So you work all the time
In your work your decide

How the clouds claim the sky

Ride on the shadows of light in the rolling tide

Past the circles of sight on the Mission side

Through the darkness of night all the sparrows cried:

Note the patterns of flight they will help you

All over in the forest the furnace of fortune will rain down upon us

Row row row down the Feather River

Honorary

Don't go leaving your heart in the crowd

Track Name: 8:1
By the waters the waters of Babylon

We lay down and wept and wept for thee Zion

We remember thee remember thee remember thee Zion
